If I must pursue you
to the ends of the earth
just for a moment in time
If I must remind you
of the promise broken
that you kept not on your mind
If I must wait hours
before you call me
to say you can not come
then you can know assuredly
that you are not my friend
If you treat me differently than others
yet expect not the same
If you pass over my hopes and feelings
and pass on to me your blame
If your trust is lacking in me
and you wonder why I'm afraid
then you should know assuredly
that you are not my friend
You don't ever see my weeping
you don't know what's in my heart
why with perjury you answer
what you know you can't impart
If indifference is between us
if my words to you are vain
if you wonder why I pass by you
at the place we work each day
if at one time you had known me
but that known is gone away
then you can know assuredly
that you are not my friend

I really, really like this one . . . good, sadly-too-true message that I for one can certainly identify with; well-written; gets the point across; great flow, rhythm, meter, etc . . . by all accounts a great poem and a pleasure to read.
