MOMMY WHAT KIND AM I
My little son went out to play some friends he went to find
Very soon was back again with tears that filled his eyes
When I asked him what was wrong my son he did reply
They say my kind can’t play with them
Mommy, What kind am I?
My heart was really breaking for my little son that day
I wrapped my arms around him and wiped his tears away
I thought how cruel the world could be to someone oh so small
Just because his colour was different from them all
You ask me son what kind are you Ill tell you what I see
I see a little boy who looks a lot like me
Whose smile is like the sunshine and brightens up my day
Whose heart is full of laughter and loves to run and play?
You are a Métis son some day you’ll be a man
Hold you head up high stand tall and proud with pride
Stand tall and proud my native son and never run away
Stand tall and proud like the mighty oak
Stand tall and proud with pride

Truly touching.
Reminds me of an all Native American girl scout troop I belonged to. I'm Alaskan Native and the other girls were Ojibwa, Chippewa, Menomonee, etc. I was different to them. Needless to say I didn't stay with the troop long.
Your poem captured the feeling quite well.
Bravo and encore.
Lots of love and peace be with you,

Yes, Mommy, teach him to be proud of his heritage and cherish it. This world is made up of a diverse group of different 'kinds' and it takes all of us to make it turn. Each and everyone of us is important in our own way. Tell him to stand tall and be strong for 'his' people and accept others no matter how they treat him. He will be the bigger, stronger man.
