The Spiraling Staircase (My Life)

Contributed by Tinkkerbelle on Monday, 7th June 2004 @ 07:27:53 PM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

There is a grand, beautiful, and huge staircase.
This staircase is my life.

To an outsider, my staircase looks beautiful, perfect, incredible.
But they don't know.

They don't know what I do.
I live the staircase.

Of course it's beautiful for people to look at,
All high maintenance, glossy, and elegant.

But all they do is observe.
I live it, I walk it, constantly.

This staircase is wide, long, and spiralling.
No one can tell if it ends.

Day after day I climb stairs while people watch me; they watch my every move.
And I feel like I'm getting nowhere.

I climb so much that I get tired.
But I'm not allowed to stop.

The spiral is upward,
Yet I feel it in reverse.

A downward spiral as I'm trudging up.
Sometimes I can't even tell.

I fall often up and down the stairs.
And it hurts. A lot.

But nobody knows.
They just look at the beauty of the staircase.

I trudge and fall and trudge and fall.
All I want to do is stop and rest; but I can't.

I get shoved back up and worked even harder.
Then I get so tired that I can barely tell I'm still climbing.

See, people look past this.
They only look at my wonderful staircase.

They don't see how much work it is.
Or how hard it is to maintain.

My staircase, my life-
It's harder than you think it is.

The spiral is upward,
Yet I feel it in reverse.
