Afraid

Contributed by Ericc on Monday, 14th October 2002 @ 04:30:00 PM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

As a child,
I was afraid of the dark.
It seemed as if there was something
So much larger than myself,
Something waiting to submerge me
In its arms of blackness.

Later –
No longer a child,
I became afraid of the light.
It seemed as if there was something
So much larger then myself,
Something waiting to engulf me
And expose my hidden
Darkness.

And now
Later still –
I have found myself no longer afraid.
I have survived through darkened hours
And embraced the light of inner meaning.

Now –
I am no longer afraid.
Yet once I was.
I was afraid of darkness and light.
It seemed as if there was something
So much larger then myself,
Something waiting on the shadows edge
To greet me.

And so there was.
Hidden within both the darkness and the light,
I found my Self…waiting,
Waiting there to meet me.
