Do You Know What it's Like?

Contributed by Katie2008 on Sunday, 6th June 2004 @ 12:59:01 PM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

I see the way you stare at me, I hear the way you laugh at me.
I can feel the hatered in your stinging wrath, feeling the pain you've inflicted on me through your bitter words.
But let me ask you this
Do you know what it's like to feel alone everywhere you go?
Being in a room full of familar faces, yet feeling so unknown?
Do you know what it's like to live in a broken home?
A mother who abuses you and a father who's never home?
Do you know what it's like to cut yourself and hope to die?
Hiding your wounds with a sweat shirt on even the hottest of summer days?
Do you know what it's like to be rejected by your peers and feel like you're a no one who will amount to nothing?
Do you know what it's like to be looked down on, labeled, and laughed at by our cruel society?
I don't think you do, so if I could try and get through to your shallow mind, I'd like to say, "Please don't judge me." because you have no idea what it's like to be me

Yes, I do. I wore a sweatshirt yesterday in 75 degree sunshine because I had cuts up and down my arms. Many people feel these things. Good job. It was a very powerful write.

I know I've already commented but I went back and read it again and it got to me even more. People don't know what it's like to have to pray no one notices your scars. And it hurts so much having to lie to my friends, telling them that they are cat scratches. It was really moving. Thank you.

every thing in this matches my life apart from the part about you mum abusing you and your dad never at home. i've been abused in the past but not like what you talk about in this...
... in summer i just show my cuts...
i don't care much any more, i've had it all of every one in that sense, but then again, i've only got scars. i'd never show my cuts to any one... because i showed it to my best mate once 'coz she wanted to see, and then shortly after she called me every thing under the sun, and siad that every one hates me, and i'm better off dead... so i tried to kill my-self... then i had to go back and face the fact that she'd spread it all round the school that i'm a cutter and things... so no! i'd never show my cuts, ever!!!!
i know how you feel inside katie!
your poem calls to me.
