She knew she had called them
unintentionally, en masse. Fireflies
abundantly sacrificing themselves,
small flickering death dances,
leaving darkness again and again.
She rescued them from coffee cups,
plates and pots, knew they were dying
to find a way into her. The female firefly
knows only two words. They are the same
invocation. For her all matters are of hunger.
Be careful who you kiss, she says,
in what language you speak the mystery
of touch. We are all predator. We are
all prey. Eventually we all make small meals
of our gods. It is the only prayer we know.

My eyes are huge and glowing like fireflies. I am going to read everything you've written now. Very impressive stuff!
