Poor Little Birdy...

I saw a little blue birdy
Locked up tight in a cage,
He squawked and screeched so loudly
His wings flapping in a rage.
So cruel it seemed, his confinement
Barely room in there to fly,
People stopped to stare at him
Instead of just passing by.
What life was it there for him,
Locked up where he couldn’t see
I’m sure he’d prefer the freedom
To be loose and flying free.
His beady eyes were bulging,
His voice became quite hoarse
Feathers then filled the air,
Having loosened from their source.
His screams then got to me,
No more could I bear the din,
I reached forward to that cage,
And gently put my small hand in,
His heart was pounding wildly,
He really looked a wreck,
My hand closed nearer to him,
And then I wrung the blighters neck!!
