I Shot The Moon

I shot the moon
and missed completely
I hit a star
it fell so sweetly
and then my dream
came tumbling down
and formed the jewels
on my golden crown
the center diamond
is still missing
the essential sparkle
to keep my dream living
the empty hole
as black as ebony
sings to me
a haunting melody
but I won't let it bother me
I must not stop trying
won't wander to the pasture
full of dreams that are dying
I won't give up
not anytime soon
and maybe next time
I'll hit the moon
