Unlikely Friends

Contributed by Keiki on Saturday, 5th June 2004 @ 03:26:02 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

A lonely, hurting teen
Thinking, "No one cares, so why am I even here?"
A trip to San Francisco
Made things seem less fuzzy and even somewhat clear.
Someone saw her pain,
And they played with her, hoping that she'd feel welcome.
But she pushed them away
Cuz she wasn't used to feeling like she might be loved.

What have I done to deserve a friend like this -
A person who will, even in my cruelty,
Take me 'neath their wing and show me kindness?
It just doesn't make sense that they can love me...

They got another chance
In Arizona when he wrote a note that changed their lives -
A gentle way of saying
That he cared and wanted to know what she felt inside.
And this time, she listened -
She began to tell him about all her pain,
He knew just what she'd been through,
So he helped her and their friendship grew closer each day.

More than a year has passed now,
And it's been amazing to see how their friendship's grown
They may have had some tough times,
But they never let each other go through them alone.
A shoulder to cry on,
Or somebody who would always lift the other up
Their friendship is so precious,
And she couldn't even start to tell him just how much.

This friendship you have so long pursued,
Well, you've made it now, you have broken through
How could I ever be so blessed,
When we both are such unlikely friends?
