I Love You Grandpa

Contributed by Colleen on Thursday, 3rd June 2004 @ 07:43:35 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

I was young when you had a heartattack
I was seven, I didn't know how to act
So I got down on my knees and said a prayer
God please don't take him there

I remember sitting in the hospital chair
Returning the gaze of fear, it wasn't fair
I was scared, yet you managed to stay strong
Showing God that with us is where you belong

We grew a little more together
I thought you'd be with me forever
Then you started to get sick again
I was still so young, but my fear wouldn't pretend

There you were with stage four cancer and slipping
I was scared, my mind constantly running
"Maybe he'll live another year." the doctor said
I couldn't picture my Papa, lying there dead

But you stayed strong when I was weak
A scared girl, young and meek
You said you stayed her just for us
I realize now, your word is something I'll forever trust

almost makes me cry ..... lovely poem. i wish people could stay with us forever. I'm glad you treasure your grandfather now. Some people don't realise how important these things are until it's too late.

Reminded me of my own grandpa this.
Sadly he is no longer here but I still think about him and what it would be like if he was here, he was one of my greatest friends.
Thx for sharing this
