black

Contributed by colette on Sunday, 13th October 2002 @ 10:15:00 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

words on a page, scripted with care
winterson, dickenson, plays of moliere,
black is the centerpiece of our eyes,
that protect us from light and betray us in lies.

midnight and black brings comfort and relief,
black is a colour of unending grief.
cats and licorice and shiny glass beads
i wear on my wrist, thinking they protect me.

middle of winter when light is the least,
it is the colour behing the word triste.

words that assault me
pierce through my heart
black surrounds me before
i make a new start

storm clouds on the prairies,
refusal to see,
black cloaks us in
anonimity.

elegance and swirling around in a dance,
ravens and onyx and in a cruel glance,
sticky tar roads on a hot summer day,
digging in soil, a child at play.

the skin of a woman
wrapped in silk
like a queen,
stately and grounded
after all she has seen.
fundamentalism fear
look for light through the crack,
the colour of the taliban
turns hearts into black.

pieces of coal, permanent ink'
a canvas to sprinkle stars on i think.

black is silent
and slumber
and hearing him stir
descending
waiting
for dreams to
occur.

I also enjoyed this poem very much, like your "Red" poem - your words are very descriptive. Do you see everything in colours???

Your imagery is inspiring. You have captured the incredible power of the colour in your words.
