By gentle wind and by chance
Leaf was freed from the branch
And floated slowly and danced divine
As the tree was left behind
It slowly fluttered in the wind
Laughing softly as the wind did send
Gust by gust and blow by blow
In the air the leaf did flow
Finely the wind did die
The leaf fell from the sky
For the ground in made a dash
And hit with a roaring crash
Its world of dreams turned to ash
It was over in a flash
Left to silence upon the grass
It was forced to watch the world pass
Soon the leaf was dead and grown
It wore upon its head a crown
Of sweet thorns that held it by its hair
And drained it of beauty and that was fair
The wind picked up and off it went
With a tear of a life now spent
It landed softly by the tree
And it grew dark till it could no longer see
