~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Memorial
He lies upon a lonely ridge
Where only trees and brambles grow
Where he was laid to rest
By friends and family long ago
Dying upon a distant shore
When the world was at war
Sent home a hero
Then and evermore
But as the years have passed
The family died or moved away
No one comes to visit
Now or any day
Another forgotten soldier
Who fought for you and me
Who sacrificed his life
To assure America is free
Let us no more forget him
Nor the others who have died
Let us honor them for their sacrifices
The freedoms they’ve supplied
Yes on this our Memorial Day
Let every soldier in every grave
Be afforded respect and honor
By those they fought to save !
Russ
Yes, our fallen heroes. They may not be visited everyday of the year but they are never forgotten or unappreciated by milions everyday. They gave their lives for us and to keep this country strong and free. This is a marvelous write, Russ, thank you.
Very heartwrenching poem Russ. Why do we forget those that gave so much? Perhaps because we can't see them...out of sight out of mind so to speak.
But he will always remain in the Heart of his Creator and one day will be set free.
Memoriable poem........I will never forget this one Russ
