Only a Rose

Contributed by reprobate on Sunday, 30th May 2004 @ 02:11:40 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

If I could only give you more, I would
Not because you need or want it
And definitely not to prove some worth
Only because I would want it for you

I certainly can't give you the universe
But I could open the door for you
I'll try to always give you joy
Yet for now, all I have is this solitary bloom

If I could only take away your pain, it'd be gone
Not because you would ever ask for it
And definitely not because I hold a cure
Only because I feel you deserve it

A single blossom is all I have to offer
An ordinary token meaning simply that I care
The only symbol that I'm able to share
It's all that I have...just a rose

If I could only make you smile
Not because you can't or won't
And definitely not because you haven't
Only because of your beauty within

I can't give you the world or much anything else
Just some lone flower to mark my affection
And only my promise of a future forever trying
It's all that I have...that's just a rose

This was a very honest and heartfelt write.
To offer a rose is a simple yet meaningful act
of love.

Very well done
Larry

Reminds me of the time when I got my first rose. It was my 16th birthday party--yes, not too long ago... 9 months... anyway...
I was in the basement @ the golf course lounge thing, where we'd rented a room, hired my cousins to DJ and friends were arriving alone or in pairs. The last one to show up, my then-boyfriend. He'd walked past a couple friends, who followed him upon seeing his gift for me and knowing it'd be another first for me, wanting to see my reaction. He also passed my mom, who started to cry (she does that a lot on my birthday...typical Mom). When he got to me, he took out a single red rose from behind his back with a flourish. It was like someone had turned a light on inside of me. It was lovely.
Your poem reminds me of that light.
Sorry to write such a novel. I get a little carried away sometimes.
Love,
Chelsea

Simple
Not complex
Beautiful
Outstanding
Breath taking
A rose, for someone, would be a gentle and subtle offering for 200%, of the heart, that is shown.! Just in awe, from this write.!
