Drunken Lullabies

My life and dreams are shattered with the blood-spattered glass.
Wailing sirens pierce the stillness of death.
Life is departing like the shadows of dawn;
Soon the baleful sun will rise
... to bathe in garish light the bloody wreckage of my future.
Thus is my short and unfulfilling life ending...
Wasted.
Because of one regretted, foolish, 'cool' mistake:
Drinking the poison, then driving fast and high--
Invincible in my drunken stupor.
I didn't think about the others...
I just didn't think.
So now we lie here on this deathbed of cold gray cement
(dyed red with our mingling blood).
Innocent children in the other car,
And me--
a child as well.
