How I Came to Stumble on The Way I Seem to Dote

At first I found him loutish, he rubbed me the wrong way.
But he remains my friend yet, up to this very day.
We once fought ev’ry minute, ev’ry chance we came upon.
He’d say, “You’re stupid, Chelsea.” I’d retort, “I hate you, Jon.”
And yet, however strange it is, we’re still two real close friends.
We’ve been there through the thick, the thin, and all the river’s bends.
We talk of God and angels, of singing, plays and dreams.
I could talk to him forever—at least that’s how it seems.
An actor and a singer, a writer and a clown;
He’s got so much to offer and I’m glad that he’s around.
We’ve shared our thoughts on music and how it makes us whole.
We’ve shared our aspirations to meet God who’ll free our souls.
We’ve talked about what we will do after we graduate,
But I haven’t shared my fear that “we” shall then abate.
A playful loving hater is so far a lasting friend.
I’ve been looking at him lately in hopes we’ll never end.
It’s not like I like him “that way”—he’s just not quite my type.
I cannot stand his shallow ways. It’s true, I always gripe.
Besides, I’m really close to him and wouldn’t that be weird?
He’s not like one that I could date—more like a friend revered.
One day I’ll have to tell him of this silly poem I wrote
And how I came to stumble on the way I seem to dote.
