The Ghost

Contributed by Archie on Saturday, 29th May 2004 @ 02:47:37 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

The music plays in the ball room
"Songs of Love" fills the air
A tux he wears as he enters the room
low hangs the chandelier
Candelabras sweetly fill the room with its dim light.
as the clicks of conversations
take form with laughter bright
No matter which group he stands amongst,
his words are never heard.
His invitations of "Dance with me" fall on tone deaf ears.
His mouth becomes a potsherd
sitting hotly in the sun.
His soul fills up with great remorse
"Why did I even come"
He stands out in the balcony
tears streaming down his face
It is as if he's dead to them
How bad he's been disgraced
To the rest room he goes to stand alone
cleaning the traces of his tears
hearing the cheering amidst the crowd
tearing at him as if jeers
He passes by a person just as he walks back out
"Isn't the party great he asked
aren't you glad that you came out"
With all the might with in himself
he musters up a smile.
"This is a wonderful party
I"m having a very good time"
All over now is the party
Friends jive and conversate
the ghost sits in the back seat
excluded once again.
They drop him at his door step
and with a jolly good bye
They tell him they'll see him tomorrow
they never once dropped by
He took his tux and burned it
the flames rose up to the sky
he hid his tears in anger
No one did see him cry

Oh, Archie - This is wonderfully heartwrenching. I suspect there will be many that can relate to this and that they will find solace in knowing they are not alone. Nicely done!

This is... sending tingles through me, I've got goosebumps and tears are falling onto my cheeks. I've actually felt this way a lot lately... like the ghost himself. Thank you for this.
A beautiful poem. Bravo and encore.
Love,
Chelsea

If this is a solid body who feels this pain, I have been there and so will my son visit such a place. But I was sure this body was a spirit unseen still possessed of this world and rejected by it. Finally spent in the funeral pyre.
