The Best I Can

Contributed by kayald on Friday, 28th May 2004 @ 08:17:15 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

My best is not enough
This stretched circle of disappointment
Has broken my resistance
Now the slightest word
Can shatter the glass wall I have built to protect myself

My face still mourns in compassion
For my friends who live in heartache
Filling their own glass shelter
That has yet to be broken

My resistant tears
Do not flow
They hang like steel
To the corners of my eyes

My eyelashes are changed to dams
To stop the pressured flow
Of sinking emotion
I am forced to control

His stare still sees my glass
For he sees himself in the reflection I produce
Glancing right through all that makes me who I am

My lost hope is growing beyond my reach
And soon my laughter will move away
Packed inside of him, a separate soul
From the pain-filled memory-makers I still love

If I pull on my soul will I be able to stop
Time and control my well-worn words?

Will my best bring him back?
Can I stop him?
Will my best be better than what it was before?
Can I stop him?

Will my best ever be enough?

This is incredibly descriptive, I love it! It literally made me have a flashback of a time, well, it was yesterday but you made me feel like I was there. This is really good and I love it!

Maybe it is not you that is lacking, maybe it is him. I don't think any of us ever feel we do our very best. We are too critical of ourselves and our lives at times. Try not to be so harsh on yourself.
