More than an Influence

Grief

His friends didn’t stop him, he thought it was no big deal
But to me it was my world, as he got behind the wheel
The engine started up, and he put the car in gear
But it was now a weapon that he began to steer
He had only had a few drinks, he thought he would be fine
But between concentration and bad judgment there is a fine line
He drove around a corner, and then took another turn
He had misjudged how sharp it was, but it was too late to learn
He slammed head on into a car when he drifted into the left lane
His life changed forever in a moment of fear and pain
His vehicle flipped over, spun, and landed on its side
The air bag shot out, if not for his seat belt he would have died
He lay unconscious for a while, till he awoke to flashing lights
He could hardly remember what happened, like most nights
Then he realized with horror, that he had crashed
Thankful he was alive, his whole life had suddenly flashed
He asked the paramedic about the other driver
It was a teenage girl, they couldn’t revive her
Tears flowed down his blood streaked face
The consequences he could not erase
Because of a decision he had cost a person their life
The truth echoed in his mind, cut into his heart like a knife
He was now a killer, because he had decided to drive away
While under the influence, now he didn’t know what to say
Because of him, I will never again see her smile
I long to once more hold her hand in mine for awhile
But I can only imagine her life as it was before
Before it was stolen away, and her future torn
No one should have to die so young
Drinking is more serious than just having fun
If you are drunk, find another way to arrive
Friends don’t let friends drink and drive

To this person who wrote this poem. This is very good. I want you to know I am going to copy this and sent this to all my friends to let them pass this on and keep it going. I want everyone to read this because it has touched my heart. I know people who drink and drive. I told them it could be there mom that they could take away.
I told them it could be a family person or even a friend. I told them I hope it comes back to you and I told them I hope they get busted so they can lose there lisense. |

This poem really struck a chord in me, as I am taking my driving test soin and I going to remember your words when I even think about driving after any amount of drink... I am so sorry for your loss, this was a very sad, raw and emotive poem but written tastefully and very powerful

very deep and emotional. this is a truly heartwarming read. sad and yet it expresses what so many people dont want to admit about a situation that puts everyone at risk. You have a great poem here! I enjoyed reading |
