He took the poetry I had given him
And stuffed it, carelessly, in a box
I made him leave his keys behind
But still think I’ll change the locks
He left the pictures, old and dear
They didn’t even cross his mind
I think I will cut him out of some
Memories then I can redesign
He left the trinkets and souvenirs
Of the trips that we took back then
Places that used to mean so much
I doubt we’ll ever see again
What each of us wanted most
Seemed to be at far opposite end
Everything seemed so easily divided
No more do we argue or pretend
It is only the poetry that I regret
I just couldn’t ask for it back though
Trapped in a box in his new home
I desperately miss it so

Can imagine this scenario so well ... and yes, the poetry would be the most painful thing to lose, but probably totally lost on him ... such a waste. Great write ... Jan |

Hmn. You should ask for it back, even if it means facing an unwanted situation. Its yours - not his . . . unless of course, you want him to stumble upon it at a much later date and regret your breakup at their obvious meaning and thorough evocation.
Just my two cents. I hadn't read this one before, and got intrigued. Glad I did.
Thanks for sharing this one - its now kept in a much better place than his home, where it'll be appreciated far more by more appreciative people . . . |

This is soooo incredibly sad but yes, very creative. There's so much I'd like to say but it's so after the fact it probably doesn't matter much any more.
*sighs*
You really really are an incredible poet.
