The Hidden Pain

Do you suffer from the mind disease?
The one you can cover and hide with such ease,
It is invisible to the untrained eye,
Nobody knows how alone we feel and how much that we cry.
To the outside world we seem quite stable,
But behind closed doors we are distraught and unable,
Unable to cope with life and all it’s meaning,
It is a self taught barrier which hides what we’re feeling.
We want to lock ourselves away like a Princess in a tower
Hide from the world to pray and to cower,
Pray that this feeling of pure unhappiness will cease,
Or that our forced and false smiles can be genuine at least.
Getting out of bed sometimes is such a strenuous task,
But to the normal one’s out there it’s not much to ask,
To put on a brave face day after day can wear a bit thin,
Especially when you feel that no matter what you can’t win.
Grin and bear it, that’s what we do,
When we feel so very fragile and our colour is blue,
We all put on an award winning act,
Even when deep inside our hearts are damaged and cracked.
We seem to be coping by day and falling to pieces by night,
For the rest of our natural we must put up this fight,
When we cry we feel so weak and alone,
Surviving the best we can, our seeds have been sown.
This illness is far from easy to see,
To know and to feel the suffering you’d have to be me,
This type of bane has driven me to suicide,
I like to call it the hidden pain and it eats you from the inside.

This is such a true poem. Do you think that we are too good at hiding our problems or that nobody else cares enough to look for them? I think it can be both ways. Great poem.
