Daddy's little girl

Topic: SadPoetry

Yesterday, do you remember?
Daddy’s little girl
I know you fear you’re losing me
And I fear I’m losing you too
I’m sorry that when you held out your hand
I wasn’t there to take it
I’m sorry that I grew up
Today you look at me
You see everything that went wrong
I walk away and look into the mirror
Deep down I know I’m right
Finally, it hits me hard in the back of the head
Daddy, can I still be your little girl?
Yesterday, I scraped my knee
I’m still running though, I’m still running
In fear of losing everything I finally grabbed onto
Some unstable child runs hysterically down the street
Screaming, “It’s mine, it’s mine, it’s mine!”
Tomorrow, I will wake up crying
As I lose myself in the emptiness of your stare
I can no longer tell if you really do care
Daddy, I’m still your little girl
I didn’t mean to hurt you so
I hate looking at myself
Because I’m scared
I’m so afraid I’ll fall apart and wither
Under my hateful, disgraced and above all, disappointed glare
Everything I touch seems to wilt at my tips
I cry, but not because I’m saddened
Label me, anything, just not “forsaken”
Everything I’ve named, you’ve taken
Daddy, please let me be your little girl
I lied, although it wilts and dies
Yesterday, do you remember?
I was Daddy’s little girl
Tomorrow I’ll make a wish to send
And then maybe Daddy will love me again.

Very well written. I find your rhyming in parts, refreshing and the overall context of this poem ensured that it be an engaging and personalised read.
Thankyou for sharing it with us.

Although my daughter is only 2 months old I will have to save this for her to read to her daddy one day! Beautiful! Christina
