Grandpa's Garden

As I set here thinking about the by gone time of yesterday,
I see kids full of fun and rough house play.
As the weather get warmer, winter looses her grip,
The thought of spring into my mind does slip.
This time of year, Grandpa always walked out to the garden spot,
It seamed so huge at the time but really it's not.
Turnips, and Collards, and other winter greens,
Left for seed, a brilliant yellow, bright as the sun or so it seemed.
I want to go fishing down at the pond, oh can I please,
why do I have to be the one to plant the carrots, and peas.
The sun is warm, the sky is clear, I want to go play did you hear?
Planting all these vegetables why does it seem to you so dear?
The old home place is grown up all around,
The old farm house is leaning and falling down.
Grandpa is only in my mind,
As I set here pondering a long ago time.
Now as I walk through the fields that is all over grown,
I wonder why more interests I couldn't have shown.
I wanted to run, fish, and of course rough house play,
I ponder and set on an old bale of hay.
All that is left of grandpa's garden is in my mind,
as I set here and ponder that long ago time.

So special and so sweet! I especially love "All that is left of grandpa's garden is in my mind". I know all about this feeling but have never been able to put it into words as well as you did. Your words keep it all alive. Thank you! Jan |
