When I was Young

When I was Young
When I was 19 and in my prime,
I went away but only for a short time.
I went away to see a far away land,
I belive in freedom here I was to make my stand.
All dressed up in my new government issued camouflage green,
they gave me a few weeks of training to make me feel mean. Boy fill your duffel and get on that plane,
what they neglected to tell you was ( Boy you will never be the same.)
Here you go boy a brand new toy, why son no you don't need a new gun.
And them new boots your right boy they don't know how to run.
I know you have been in the bush for weeks son, Rain, Snakes, Gooks, Mud, Blood,
oh I know your a little tired. You can rest while you set on guard.
Sleep? why no you can't go to sleep.
If you do you will only be a warm heap.
That is why they give you R&R,
so you can get drunk to cover the scars,
148 hours of desperately going from Bar to Bar.
Pack in as much living as you can,
Sleep? yeah I slept; on the way back to Nam.

Sad but very good writing. We cilvilians need to hear more of this type writing.
I really appreciate u and all our soilders out there. It's really sad that u as once a soilder or still? Anyway, thing is we very seldom hear life on your side of the fence. It not only effects u for the rest of your life and your family members as well.
Great job.
Luv, huggs, inner peace,
emy

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
