Man on one end of the leash, girl on the other

Contributed by Elena on Saturday, 22nd May 2004 @ 04:27:50 PM in AEST
Topic: AmericanTragedy

Man on leash, what do you have to say
About honour in battle, about freedom regained,
About fallen despots, about crawling towards a new life,
About ladies smoking in public, the wrong hand on the gun?

Man on leash, what can you tell me
About wandering wearily, about finding oneself?
I don’t speak your language, but I’m listening anyway.
Don’t let me go home without saying hello.

Man on leash, we should have met in a bar.
Somewhere between Nineveh and Never Again.
I’d buy you a drink. Oh, you don’t drink?
Then I’d watch your beard grow as we walk through the sand.

Man on leash, I’d like to help you.
But I want to hear what life is like underneath.
You’ll never believe this, but you’re my deliverer
Without you, how would I know who I am?

Man on leash, I’ll never forget you.
You showed me the ugliest side of myself.
You made me a liar, you made me a thief.
You made me someone I'd sworn I’d never become.

Man on leash, the lady is back again.
She says it’s her way of breaking the ice,
Of getting close to you, of standing just a leash away.
She’s one in a million, wouldn’t you say?

Deborah, Deborah, hit the drum,
Hit it while the soldiers run.
Sing your song till kingdom come.
Make your music in the desert sun.

Deborah, baby, tastes so sweet
A slow, smooth drag in the arid heat
Soldier, soldier, watch your back
Carry me, baby, I’m your pack.

Deborah, lover, light the fire
Sip it in, hold it, like desire
The first one’s heavy, the second one’s light.
Baby, they’re all there for you tonight.

Enough is not enough, you see.
The man, like the mooooon, is waaaaaaning.
Deborah, Deborah, return to the hive;
Your sting has kept the waning man ALIVE.

Deborah, Deborah, the manchild in your womb
Was the only way to get you home.
Whatever you say, babe, whatever you do.
Your manchild will be a soldier, too.

"Without you, how would I know who I am?"

Striking performance. I found the second part a little tough going since I am unaware if this is based upon fact or fiction, but the first part more than makes up for any potential deficiency. Great R&R, too. I appreciate that.

Welcome to the YPDC, by the way. I forgot to do that earlier, i think.
