A Momma's Boy

Contributed by Jeff_Scott_Morehead on Friday, 21st May 2004 @ 10:58:30 PM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

A Momma’s Boy
-------------
Straight laced and proper,
It was the only way I knew.
A momma’s boy was I,
Always pride and true.

Rebellion I never needed,
Never had a reason to raise my voice.
If I had to chose a mother,
Easily you’d be my first choice.

Respect I had in bunches,
Adoration at every turn.
To grow up in your likeliness,
Was something that I yearned.

I became your eyes when your sight left you,
Not out of pity, but for love.
How I longed for your recovery,
As I prayed to God above.

How I marveled at your strength,
Through tribulations you stood tall.
And when your family needed you,
You hovered over us all.

And now that dad passed on,
It’s been ten long trying years.
You still, like before,
Dried every tear.

I've seen the years take their toll,
On your body, but not your mind.
And it weights on me like a burden,
Wishing that everything was fine.

I could not bear face tomorrow,
If it meant letting go.
You’re such a part of my life,
And I need you more than you know.

I’m so proud to be your son,
And I love you with all my heart.
If I had to count all the blessings,
I wouldn’t know where to start.
