Black Heart

Contributed by blueheart on Thursday, 20th May 2004 @ 09:16:57 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

What heart is this,
That triggers the inner furnace,
Of solitary anger.

A heart that churns,
When grey stars begin,
To bathe in pools of success.

A heart that is numb to pain,
Which deadens itself,
When creeping sympathy is aroused.

Where smiles are extinct,
And broken pieces refuse to heal,
And love never resides.

A heart of a morbid mind,
This black heart could have been mine.

Well, I for one, am glad it did not. I like your heart just as it appears to be.

Rita

Aw I really like this one, even though I shouldn't encourage such morbid thoughts ;)
Well-written, and a perfectly-stated closing verse.

I was watching the movie on HBO I think about the Nuremberg trials of the Nazi officials who were trialed for war crimes and crimes against humanity when i came across a line spoken by a character in that movie. He was a psychiatrist who interviewed those Nazi officials and he said that his definition of evil is "the absence of empathy with your fellow man". I have this creeping sensation that i too am afflicted with this most dire of disease...my own mother called "kering hati" or in translation a person with a dried up heart...in here your poem I find another description of my own self...numb and unable to respond to emotional stimuli...Black Heart...hmmm yes this could indeed be me... or at least this is what I wish it to be...a black heart...hee heh heh...anyway.. a nicely done depiction of apathy and nubmness...I should know... Nice write!

"The human heart is a vessel of contradictions... it can be full of kindness that can lead to peaceful sojourns and yet it too is what stood behind those monsters who were propelled forward to their darkly deeds by the contrivances of their twisted hearts...full of such hatred and emnity."
