Britannia's legions great withdrew to Rome
defending city's leagues against the vile
Goths, Vandals seen destroying buildings, home
thus causing people devastating trial.
Such wondrous treasures deemed lost mile on mile;
no stopping these barbaric hordes of swine.
Britannia's legions stayed the hosts awhile,
but couldn't beat back blows and hold the line
against the numbers coming fleet across the Rhine.
Pick slave descendant came to Playston Green
and made his home among the peoples free.
A wild, rough kind that Joes had never seen,
accepting stranger only by degree.
Then Joes agreed to pay a lordly fee,
and he indentured late himself to Chrome
for seven harvest seasons seen to be,
and married, aye, soon making bride a home.
With servitude and bride, man nevermore would roam.
