A Poem What I Wrote

Contributed by melis on Wednesday, 9th October 2002 @ 03:20:00 PM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

No finer occupation can there be,
Than to be a writer of wondrous poetry.
I’ve done a lot so I’m a kind of veteran,
Though I keep hoping to write a better and better ‘un.

But, I say if a thing’s worth doing, it’s worth doing badly,
And, unfortunately, that rather sums up, albeit sadly,
My attempts at putting together some verse,
Which, I admit, are mostly awful and sometimes worse.

But who cares if It’s not serious or arty farty.
I say, ***** art! Let’s get down and party!
Anyway, I can always find an abundance of riches,
In worn out similes and hackneyed clichés…..oops.

If I think of an image and I find I can metaphor it,
I have to say that I feel all the better for it,
But if you keep on the lookout and let nothing evade your eyes,
You’ll always find stuff that is easy to plagiarise.

Grammar don’t matter and it ain't got to rhyme,
And scanning's no problem most of the time.
All you have to do is stick a few extra syllables into a line,
And though the meter is wrecked it still looks just fine.

Having something worth saying can really be a curse,
But even paucity of thought can be camouflaged in verse,
And you can fill up another line by calling a verse a stanza,
Which then opens up a whole new rhyming bonanza.

I could ramble on in insouciant mediocrity forever,
All the time saying nothing of any merit whatever.
Ignorance is my best defence, so I’m glad I don’t know it,
And bad as I may be, I still fancy I’m a great poet.

well at least you already know that it's no good so i don't have to be the one to break the bad news to you.

but then again you used some big words and i don't even know what they mean, so maybe it's just so good that i can't even comprehend it so i recognize it as crap.
