The Colour Of Pain

Contributed by blueheart on Wednesday, 19th May 2004 @ 07:42:25 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I gather my brushes,
Ready to begin my transformation,
Into a giver of life to this barren expanse,
The canvas pleads with me,
To begin the metamorphosis.

Figures and scenes mingle with dreams,
But I choose to paint you,
To strip the veil of your constucted image,
To bare you in the light of honesty,
To reduce your complexity to blending hues.

Dollops of paint take center stage,
While the turpentine looks on,
These strokes of red are the rose petals,
All strewn across the room,
In your bid to capture my heart.

Purple royalty soon cliams its throne,
To remind me of your exquisite taste,
Outlined with a silver lining,
Which you used to compare me with,
And those times I felt above it all.

Yet soon the scene takes bitter tone,
A daub of black for all the deceit you spread,
The knives you held while I bled,
The face you smeared with ashes,
When I wasn't aware.

And finally blue, the blissful shade of peace,
When I strode free from your grasp,
And mended my broken wings,
Along with a tinge of yellow,
For the sunrise that began in my life soon after.

You've engraved in me life memories,
A spiral that I will not take again,
Through it all I've learnt to forgive you,
Although I still have your colour of pain.

Red, black, purple and blue, definitely the colours of pain. But I am so glad you found that dab of yellow at the end. So many don't. This is a extraordinary piece of work.

You have literally painted such an exquisite picture here, and for that I thank you. Man, if emotions have ever been caught in words, you have done it in "The Colour of Pain". It hit home for me, thank you so much

You have colored it with perfection, this is a powerful poem, I like how you end it reminding that you will not be back.

Great write.

Hanna, This is a really good write. I love how you picked all the colors apart and descibed them. Excellent. *S* Cynthia

Profound in the concept. Pain as well as joy take on different hues. You've done yourself proud in the ability to convey to us what pain would look like in color. June

I like the imagery here, very well-written - pleading canvas, rose petals, knives... imagination. Favourite:

But I choose to paint you...
To bare you in the light of honesty,

The first line alone stands out the most in the whole poem for me.
