Streets paved with gold
Beckoned my ancestors
From Ireland long ago
Leave behind the poverty
Make a new start and grow
Rich as a king in America
Ah but it was not so
And still today we toil and sweat
With not to show but a broken back
The rich look down upon the poor
The poor resenting what they lack
And every day the gap grows
Gas tis over $2 a gallon
Barons of industry run the show
With no care for wilderness
No care for the poor
No care for decency, justice and fairness
They worship the almighty dollar
And once we stood young and brave
Shouted power to the people
And thought we could change everything
But now where are those stalwart voices
Talking on cell phones to fancy lawyers
Protect my investments, cut me a deal
I want more than I will ever need
The fever grows and spreads the greed
While the poor are pushed out of the picture
The rich are laughing up their sleeve
Vote for me and I’ll send you a dollar
Vote for me and I’ll send you to war
Vote for me and I’ll send your job overseas
Vote for me if you don’t know any better

My ancestors came from Ireland as well and worked in the mills at Manchester. Their names were O'Brien and Farretta. My Grandmother grew up in the mill houses (the tenaments). We have much in common.

Merry, haven't you ever heard the saying,
"Politicians are like a bunch of Bananas, none of them is straight!"
Sharp writting at the right time...
