Speaking From The Soul

Contributed by springchic1979 on Wednesday, 9th October 2002 @ 06:30:00 AM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

Decide if you will live a lie
By being insincere
Selecting only certain words
Which people want to hear.
Committing yourself to pleasing
Everyone else but you--
Digging yourself a deeper grave
With every word you spew.
Removing every minute trace
Of what you once had been
Making all that remains of you
An 'exoskeleton'.
Spineless, sagacious shell, shattered
By bad banalities;
Common clichés, anecdotes, and
Pre-rehearsed pleasantries.
It is not fair to simply smile
And fool with false pretense;
I would prefer you speak your mind
Then suffer in silence.
I do suggest you sound your voice
With truth and dignity
Retaining professional poise
With your sincerity:
Engage with an affluent tongue,
Adopt a mannered tone,
Determine a worthy approach
To make your feelings known.
There is, however, one detail
That you cannot control:
The price you may be forced to pay
When speaking from the soul.
So choose locutions carefully
Not all wounds can be healed...
Remember when words are spoken
They cannot be repealed.

I really love your work and this one is brialliant. At first I thought you were telling one person, but then I realized that you were speaking to everyone (I think).

What great words, especially - "Spineless, sagacious shell, shattered by bad banalities; Common clichés, anecdotes, and pre-rehearsed pleasantries." Superb.

Thank you so much for commenting Dreamweaver. You made my day!

You are correct though, DreamWeaver, I was speaking to everyone...yet no one in particular, hehe.
