Is Revenge Really That Sweet?

Contributed by pixie on Monday, 17th May 2004 @ 11:44:25 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

When a marriage breaks down,
It’s the children who get twisted round and round,
Warring parents hell bent playing games,
Trying to put the other one to shame.

Children are forgotten amongst all this,
Who’d have thought your own flesh and blood were so easy to miss?
All the innocent parties want is to feel loved,
But from parent to parent they’re pushed and shoved.

Shifting positions like a pawn in chess,
They never asked to be in any of this mess,
Who has them on Christmas and birthdays?
Which parent will have their own way?

It’s like a cruel game of tug o’ war,
Are the smiles genuine, can you be sure?
Children are good at hiding their true feelings,
They may act care free but inside be reeling.

Children have eyes and ears everywhere,
They will pick up on the tension filled stares,
They are the ones who are left feeling lost,
Do you still want revenge… whatever the cost?
