38 -Every other kiss, a joke
Every other smile, brings a sullen thought
Every other girl, is relative to nothing
All the other kisses were empty
All my returning smiles, were fakes
And all the other girls I met since meant nothing.
Sometimes I’ve closed my eyes in a kiss, To lie
Wishing that I were kissing you.
Sometimes I’ve smiled pretending
That I was looking at your face,
But then I realized you were not there,
and all I could do was close my eyes again…and pretend.
Sometimes I’ve hoped every new girl
I meet, can break me free from you, but no matter what…they can’t
At this point:
I KNOW that when I open my eyes In the middle of a kiss
I couldn’t lie to myself anymore, It isn’t you I’m kissing.
I KNOW that when I’m smiling At all the other girls
They can’t bring my soul to light,
As you did when you seemed to smile al day.
I realize all this, and I KNOW, I could never compare a rocks to the sun.
I KNOW that I was difficult at times.
I was a little “ slick ” at times. Yeah okay…
But everywhere I’ve looked; Everyone I’ve met;
Every kiss I gave , every name I forget
Seemed to be a reminder
Of everything that could have been,
but had to end,
It’s all come Back To You, cause i never had to pretend ....
you lit my life, and made me smile
cause you were the one
I could never forget you, unless you tell me
you wanted to forget me too.

I know this feeling and love your write because it is so true to it. I'd offer advise but I haven't found anything to do with the lingering memories except to transcribe them as you have already done.... and done well. Your write leaves me aching and that's just about right, I think. |
