Despite The Scars

Contributed by waos on Saturday, 15th May 2004 @ 12:48:58 AM in AEST
Topic: LoveRemembered

His raindrop spattered lips
lowered to greet my face,
but as these raindrops dropped,
my tears simply kept pace.
And as his hands slip from my waist,
the bands slip from my wrists.
The whips crack at my back,
I stagger but yet it persists.
I fall back only reaching for his hand,
I fall praying to see only his eyes;
and as these hands grip to twist my throat
I know I fell for all of Satan's lies.

And can you answer me?
As I stay here so alone.
And can you answer me?
As I lie here and groan.

I'm falling, twisting, spinning,
with only his face in my view.
But all I see is his helplessness,
his tears like morning dew.
And with each crack of each whip
I writhe in agony.
And with each unknown hand that snaps them,
I scream for them to weary.
And with each passing second,
my grip to life slips away.
And as you reach too close to me,
the whips force you to stay.

And can you answer me?
As I stay here so alone.
And can you answer me?
As I lie here and groan.

The whips continue thrashing
all I'm left with, ribbons formerly known as me.
Our tears mingling as you're drawn in
until you feel my pain and me.
My hands stretch out and you feel
what's become of those light hands.
You wrap your arms around me,
showing how much you understand.
But I'm screaming inside with volume
to match the tears flowing outside.
I pray you have the courage to face the truth,
of whose hands behind those whips hide.
For finally I see
that the only one around was me.
And finally I know
that you're the only one I want to show.

These scars upon my body,
inflicted by none other than me.
Those rips of flesh are all that are left
of all that was innocently me.
And now those small wounds upon you
have overflowed from mine.
And how do you continue holding me,
when your wounds and mine entwine?

And can you answer me?
As I stay here so alone.
And can you answer me?
As I lie here and groan.

And your now tear stained lips still lower
towards mine in such sweet embrace.
How could I have hoped to feel
such innocent sweet hopeful grace?
And you lift your lips to these scars
to tell me I'm worth your time.
And that nothing can get in the way,
now this peace and love I feel is so sublime.

Thank you for answering me,
despite my crying pleas.
Thank you for seeing the me,
beyond each lightening scar.
Thank you for hearing me,
when it would have been too easy to fear.
