as i look
into his eyes
one tear rolls down
my cheek.
leaving a trail
of all the lies
that i should never take.
i turn around
and face the street.
he said he was sorry
i said no your not
he lied so many times
or though i thought.
they are my best friends
i've known them long
so i'd take their word
against your own.
i'm honestly sorry
that i a must say this
to your face.
we are over
i didn't want it this way
i like you a lot
but i can't stand to be played.
i turn around
with a few more tears
i try to walk
and wipe away my fears.
before i leave
i say a few words
and what i say is
Good-bye.

Short, simple, succinct . . . yet with a few lines that just knock you down and leave you staring, amazed and impressed.
"leaving a trail
of all the lies
that i should never take"
--THAT is what poetry ought to be.
Well done.
