Come on,
put another layer on.
They cant see it,
they havent yet.
Put another layer on,
and your ok.
They wouldnt care either way.
Look in the mirror,
purple dont suit you.
Look in your eyes,
pray he dont shoot you.
Long sleeves today,
till those welts fade away.
Sorry teacher,
My wrist's sore today.
No nurse I'm ok.
Why keep fightin?
He'll do it either way.
Just let him play his game,
it'll end the same.
Come on,
put another layer on.

Right to the heart of it. A different kind of surrendering - learned helplessness and fatalism combine with raw survival. The understating only serves to concentrate the power and pain of this composition.
