Don't look at me that way.

don't look at me for sympathy.
I cannot feel your pain.
don't expect me to empathize.
I won't be bothered with this game.

there's no way that you "get it".
don't tell me you understand.
you can't. you haven’t felt the blade
don't tell me it's part of a greater plan.

don't look at me with teary eyes.
don't say "it doesn’t have to be this way"
just go back to your perfect life.
don't expect me to last another day.

don't look at me like I'm a freak
cause my arm is a tangled web of scars.
don't say "learn to cope--get a grip"
don't question my sanity. that's going too far.

of course I'm sane or I’d still be locked up.
don't tell me life isn't my choice.
I’m a minor--yes--but it's not up to you.
unless you wish to extinguish my voice.

do you wish to shut me out?
to force me again into hiding
within myself?
if that's your wish, just say so.

otherwise don't look at me.

for your gaze burns into me just as the matches have so many times before.

As a parent, I had to read this. It's heartbreaking. I could see you. I could see you through your mother's eyes. I would cry her tears. I have two children whom I love dearly. I can't see this from the other side anymore. I don't remember. I only know that you are her baby as mine are still my babies. I can only feel her tears and anguish. I can only pray for healing.

i remember thinking this way, though not quite in the same case... let time settle some things and hold no grudges, see what comes about and you may actually surprise yourself. ;0)

I can relate... I know you mustn't like to hear people say that all the time because I hate it too... I guess I can relate to the poem even though I have no way of feeling your emotions. Either way, fantastic write.
Bravo and encore,
Love,
Chelsea
