Broken Promises

Contributed by Black13 on Monday, 10th May 2004 @ 11:21:50 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

I placed my whole life in your hands
but your jaded resolve broke my heart.
Left to pray for the love you swore to be true.
Slept in your arms entrusting my dreams to you.

And my broken dreams drown out my hope
as my hollow heart freezes over.

Now I find I've no life left to speak of.
Praying left me with only bruised knees.
I spent so many wasted nights awake
and comfort only came from empty bottles.

Dreams are corrupted and I feel low.
Trying to fill a void with unloved lovers.

Nightmares are haunting my memories of our past.
Forgetting who my tongue shared passion with last night.
No need for names when your own escapes you.
Hoping to pass young with black roses on my grave.

What a picture of loss and despair, and yet a vibrant and moving painting.

an awesome poem buddy. I loved it so expressive and well written.
I spent so many wasted nights awake
and comfort only came from empty bottles.
I loved those two lines. It was good to read another of your poems.
