Memories of an Old Man

Contributed by UnfallenTears on Monday, 10th May 2004 @ 01:52:31 PM in AEST
Topic: Tributes

My grandfather was a young man
A reinforcer of a universal dream
Hardened as he watched comrades die
A fighter of the Nazi regime

He returned home a hero
But aged slowly with his memories
A husband, then a father
A hero of his own adversities

He watched his children grow
No longer dependent on his words of wisdom
Seemingly seeking their own truths
Creating an everlasting conundrum

His aged eyes hold my stare
As my tears refuse to flow
A silent understanding forms between us
That his memories are mine to know

My father looks at me the same way
His understanding of his own father's madness
His own memories rewind and play
As I grow into his gladness

My grandfather's memories haunt him
A never-ending storm
As he watches my father watch me grow
And I watch them as my own life forms

My grandfather is a hero
But before his life lights dim
I want him to know his memories are mine
And I will never forsake him
