Why Write Poetry?

Contributed by YPDC_Group_Writes on Sunday, 9th May 2004 @ 11:04:34 PM in AEST
Topic: group

Leprechaun, Guest:-

How that bag sags with coins, mister!
That crown you wear stoops your head
How it sags down your shoulders,
And fetters your spirit to your bed!

So you ask: why write poetry?
It can't bring profit you say:
Yet I live in Bacchus' myst'ry
And find cheer in me day by day!

Serendippitty, Newbie:-

Why write poetry, you ask?
Perhaps to express your soul
In a melodic and rhytmic way
that comes from the heart
and feels good on the whole?

Maybe its to put
your words in a special way
so that they dash across the page
and make them fun to say?

Who knows why one writes poetry?
But does one really care?
One writes whats on the mind...
and salute all those who dare!

poetrygodslove, Resident-

Why write poetry ?
well let me see
maybe it is because it makes me feel free
to express my feelings
either it be good or bad
or let you know how GOD made me glad...

Why write poetry?
for all the world to see
that one can write poetry
and hope it may rhyme
but it will last forever
until the end of time...

Why write poetry?
because of long ago
and far away
no one knew what do do
but say.....

it in a poem
whisper it in ones ear
lay on a blanket
and year after year
telling one you love them
in a special way
that you will always love them
in maybe actions
but in a poem you can say....

lil_angel, Resident:-

(you can say....) how you feel and what you see
your feelings on a topic
or what the voices are saying

Poetry is too escape the gruling world
if only for a few moments of each day
to say what you are too scared to say face to face

To learn, to live, to breath
that is why i write poetry
what would your reasons be?

Atrides Agamemnon, Guest:-

Mere fools ask, "why poetry?"
Mere words are not enough.
Mere words alone say naught-
Mere words and sentences are dead.

But words rearranged, words reformed
Words brought to a palette called a soul
Transmitted by a brush known as the mind
Unto a canvas known as human language
Gladdens the soul, restores its strength
And sends men upon a jig
Up into
Heaven.

Vitreous_Soul, Resident:-

Writing is an escape for me
My home away from home
Tangled thoughts i've never spoken
I've spun into a poem

To leave the sphere of reality
Find the refuge I seek
To express the love I cannot give
And bring me strength when I am weak

To mend the scars upon my soul
Uncage my mind and set it free
To find myself and unlock my heart
The key is forged of poetry

Seven Jars of Blood, Guest-

No more, no more do we say:
For we shall triumph in the end, miser!
Poetry we shall use, poetry shall we prime,
Poetry shall be our weapon
And the rivers will run red with the blood
Of those that oppose the revolution.

Soon there will be one loud shout,
Soon there will be one great work,
For we poets are comrades-in-arms
Fighting for a single world,
For a single race
Whose breasts you still split
And whose blood you spill still

To you, poor brothers
We will write
In our poetry
The new manifesto
That shall be your emancipation.
Poetry shall be our weapon
And the rivers will run red with the blood
Of those that oppose the revolution.

Soon there will be one loud shout,
Soon there will be one great work,
And you shall raise your eyes
And see the dawn of your salvation.

Soulless, Newbie-

Why write poetry you ask
To dip our souls in temptation
And express our inner self
Refresh thoughts and minds
Stir and mix our inner muscles
And bring alive our sensations

Why write poetry you ask
Well the answer here is simply this
why not I ask

Jellybellyprincess, Resident:-

lyrical pen strokes grace the snowy slate
and thoughts are
transformed into music of the written word
preserved here
in the undying realm of poetry
where moments remain for eternity

Jarmen_Kell, Dweller:-

I write sweet verses,
To sow a seed of hope in
The Genesis of dreams.

Happiness, Resident:-

Writing poetry is liberating.
It's a way of celebrating
the inner workings of a mind
disposed to meditating.

Fascinating it is to see
how ambivalent my reaction can be
to words I expell, which both,
comfort and vexation propel.

Jarmen_Kell, Dweller:-

I profit from truth
I profit from subtlety.
I live off poetry.

I will build the towers of tommorow, every day
From the bricks of yesterday's quarries
And then when I stand emancipated all shall say,
"This is testament to God's glories!"
