Madness Reigns

Contributed by Cora-Windover on Friday, 7th May 2004 @ 03:16:07 PM in AEST
Topic: fictional

Take shelter from the storm
Madness can only keep you warm
So long, until it starts to take it's toll
I won't leave you out in the cold
Don't just give up and be swept away
Across the lonely, barren plain
There's a grain of truth in all you say
You want from me
You loved me
But madness reigns

Only a Fool like me would follow you so far
Someone has to remind you who you are.

Ring, ring, the doorbell's ringing yet again
It's not much
But maybe it is just enough
To lift this reverie, hey
I may be deaf and dumb, but damn, I still can see!

You left a ring of light upon the stair
A ring of endless light that wasn't there
So long, the darkness now seems darker
And the bleak truth so much starker
With that grain of truth you left here
Waiting for the answers to appear
In the shadows cast by the ring of light
You left for me
You loved me
But madness reigns

Only a Fool like me would follow you so far
Someone has to remind you who you are.

Ring, ring, the doorbell's ringing yet again
It's not much
But maybe it is just enough
That two blinks means yes, hey
Answer me in writing, cuz I can't do much else!

The bleak truth of the forest fire
Black leaves behind candycane liars
In trees, telling lies becomes an art
To one so skilled as me and my black heart
Wake up in twenty years and see if things have changed
Nope, the same old, same old games
You played with me
You loved me
But madness reigns

Only a Fool like me would follow you so far
Someone has to remind you who you are.

Ring, ring, the doorbell's ringing yet again
It's not much
But maybe it is just enough
There's a new exciting point of view, hey
No, that's old news, nothing makes the front page today

Autumn winds, autumn winds
I've got years to kill here
Let's take a nap under this tree and see if things have

changed
The storm's still bowing, won't you come inside, my lord?
But who is leading who, when the blind can't find the door?

Take shelter from the storm
Madness can only keep you warm
So long, until it starts to take it's toll
You know, I've seen these old kings fade away
But hey!
Make the right decisions and you might live
To love again someday.
You loved me
But madness reigns

Ring, ring, the doorbell's ringing yet again
It's not much
But maybe it is just enough
Wake up in twenty years, hey
The same old games are being played with different names

And maybe I'm the one who scorns the door
Forcing myself into the autumn winds
Out in the storm again
Trying to convice myself it's all for you
Waiting in the ring of light
For night to fall

Ring, ring, the doorbell's ringing, but I won't answer
I can't leave the call of the storm
Madness can only keep me warm for so long
But at least it's something new!

I know it's true
You're the Fool to follow me all this time
Singing a stupid little rhyme
About a ring of endless light

Can't you see it's so cliche?
Shut up, shut up, and let me run away
