A Fiend In Need - Is A Fiend Indeed

Contributed by Coquillion on Friday, 7th May 2004 @ 10:34:54 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

As the young girl hurried home,
upon a bleak mid-winter’s night,
a demon stepped from the shadows
into the moon’s pale light

It regarded her with fiery eyes.
It hissed and snapped its jaws.
It spread its blood red, leathery wings
and clicked its deadly claws.

The demon hopped towards her.
She smelt its putrid breath.
The girl stood still and waited
for the moment of her death.

But the moment never came,
in fact the demon smiled
“I mean no harm ( it rumbled )
“I would not hurt you child!

The demon knelt before her
and to the girl’s surprise
it recounted such a tale of woe
as tears fell from its eyes.

“I was human once ( it said )
“But by a warlock’s spell
I’m cursed to wear this body
and to spend my days in hell.

“But you’re the key (the demon said)
“to all which I desire
a lock of hair, freely given,
is all that I require.

“Then shall this curse be lifted
and I shall be set free,
with my heart, my soul and body
the way they used to be.

The young girl was so saddened
that, for its lost soul’s sake,
she held out a lock of golden hair
for the demon beast to take.

It cut the hair with a razor claw
and it was O so gently placed
among a hundred other locks of hair
in a pouch about its waist.

But even as it thanked her
the young girl grew concerned
For the demon’s gentle manner changed
and its evil face returned.

“I said I wouldn’t hurt you,
said the demon with a sigh
“But I have a demons nature
and Demons ALWAYS lie.

“You see – the lock of hair you gave
has no magic lest you’re dead.
And with that the deceitful demon
bit off the young girl’s head.

And as the demon flew away
it was still consumed with hate
But there were many lonely girls to find
and sad tales to relate.
