Daddy, why did you forget me?

Contributed by M on Thursday, 6th May 2004 @ 08:05:53 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

Wishing everyday that you would rescue me - steal your little princess away -
Wasting precious wishes on one I knew you would never live up to.
Beguiled by your letters and cards, I began to believe your heart was less hard,
And you would, one day, become the Dad I knew was here to stay.

But you never came, simply adding to the pain
Of knowing you never loved us, had never cared for us,
Can one be so deluded by familial affection
As to misinterpret repeated rejection?

Trying constantly to telepathically communicate with you
- Never succeeding, it was purely demeaning.
Since when did Dads become the biggest regret you ever had?
Since I put my trust in you, and you did what you always do -

Run away; hide from the truth everyday,
Don’t repent about your offspring, they were just an inconvenience.
Daddy, who did you turn out to be?
Why did you forget me?

that was really moving, and hit a lot of nerves with me as i can relate.

well written and well expressed considering how hard a situation it is to vocalise. second stanza was the one that got me most.
