With an endearing, nearly heroic effort
Tongue peeking out and scrunched nose so pert
Four words, to paper are pressed
So succinct and sweetly expressed
The most educated would fail to be as concise
To string these syllables any more precise
A little sentence from such a small hand
The intent is clear, no need to expand
The carefully-creased tome offered with outstretched arm
A smile, giggle and twinkle to add to the charm
What this child gave with unfeigned innocence
Brings tears to any with even a little sense
Heart swollen from a child usually more 'chatty'
What was freed from the folds ---"I love you, Daddy!"

Oh Mike, how precious. Aren't they just the most precious thing you have? I still have a note from my little one, who is almost 32, that was written when he was 6 that says "I love you becos". I think that is priceless and would sell anything I own to never let go of that. It is indelibily imprinted on my heart, but that single piece of paper means the world to me.
