Malachi and the Sea*

Contributed by Glo on Wednesday, 5th May 2004 @ 06:05:31 AM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

While on vacation, finally my troubles I left on the shelf,
Time to concentrate on me......time to think of Self.
This Island it's sand so crystal white.
Such a warm and welcoming breeze,
Even when night falls I'm blanketed by the Sultry Trade Winds.
As I stroll along the Sea.

Watching the waves roll in as they kiss the shore,
I lie on the warm crystal white sand........
Deep in thought admiring God's perfect work, when I felt something touch my hand.
Not thinking...... that on Full Moon Nights,
Sea People come ashore.
Only to do what nature instilled in them,
Sea Turtles....... laying eggs by the score.

Sitting up and looking all around.........
No Sea People to be seen,
Again I lay down on the sand looking to the sky.
Stars twinkling high above under the clear dark blue skies.
Suddenly I sit up looking toward the Sea.........
I had this feeling that someone was watching me.

There just at the Oceans edge, myself yelling who's there?
"Tis I, keeper of this Island.......my name is Malachi!"
As I walked closer toward him, why he's but a child.
Who would entrust him to be Keeper of such an Isle?
He looked at me and said, "I know what thou must think!"
How can someone so young guard this Mighty Isle?"

I was sent here by King Neptune.....Mighty God of the Sea,
To make certain all of his Sea People return safely home with me.
So many times, more than I care to say.........
Scores of our Sea People have been savagely taken away.
Dolphins in nets, Whales by harpoons, many drifting ashore.
Beaching themselves...... too exhausted fleeing from man,
Not having the will to live anymore.

"Tis my job says Malachi, as ordered by the King,
To help the Sea People return back home,
The Dolphins, and Whales........what lovely songs they sing!"
Malachi looked at me, saying he must be on his way,
I wanted him to tell me more.......he said he couldn't stay.
"Tis been my job for thousands of years.....
I must carry on!"
With the next high Swell and the flap of his tail........Malachi was gone.
To give account to King Nepture, in hopes with his help,
The Sea People will carry on.

Respect All Creatures Great and Small!
