I Mean To........

I mean to put this anger down, and leap boundlessly
Into that part of you that protects me from my paltry past.
I mean to lay my pain at your feet, and walk away quietly
As somehow you always know what to do with wasted weight.
I mean to flee this sadness, and boldly bury myself
In the warmth and security of your eager embrace.
I mean to forgive my hollow heart, once and for all
For shutting down so completely and leading me forever astray.
I mean to open my soul, and allow you real access
To this place you have dwelled so secretly since I have known you.
I mean to do all this, and yet I stand here, fearfully
Staring off into the distance that separates our two lives
Knowing what could be will never be.
