The New Woman
She entered the conference room, not
meekly but assertively argued her case.
The eight men around the table fell
silent in their ears her voice rang shrill,
too efficient and she didn’t tell jokes.
When done she looked at her watch
announced that she had another meeting.
The eight stood up shook her hand warmly
complemented her for the speech and how
lovely she looked in her business suit.
Then they sat down and except for a few
crude jokes, continued the talk they had let
up when she entered, it was, as she hadn’t
been there at all.
