to you i was a friend
you were so much more to me
i knew by the way i smiled-
it was you i couldn't wait to see
i'd dayream about our future
once i told you how i feel
but you gave my love away
right there in front of me
the night we gathered in celebration
of the day that you were born
it's that night that i died
from a heart so badly torn
guess you couldn't hear
the " i love you" on my tongue
or the many, many songs
for you my heart had sung
you gave my love away
right there in front of me
you gave it to him
for everyone to see
i wanted to run
i wanted to cry
i wanted to be sick
and you had no idea why
you gave my love away
before i had the chance to say
how in love with you i was
and now it's just too late
