Margarita LXI

Topic: StoryPoetry

This time next day Stephanus we will find.
For mission's way to brother Miquel Rey.
At break of morn is time I hold in mind
and old church place is fine where we can stay.

Don Hernandez spoke. "Tomorrow we leave for my brother's hacienda. At close of day
we will stop at Mission San Stephanus for supper and rest. The next day we lodge at
Asistencia Lapa. Father Cheliso still gathers rocks and he will want to show you all
the new rocks he has added to his collection. He believes he has found a little gold, but
I don't know. Maybe it is so. Lapa indians tell many stories." Captain Thompson
spoke. " What time so we start in the morning?" "Daybreak. Captain."
"Do we travel the King's Highway?" "Only to San Stephanus. Have you been to Lapa?"
" No Sir, I haven't. Captain and I came through the pass from Santa Merietta to
San Luis Ore. Of course we came by horses and that's easier than carriage. Is the road
from Lapa to San Luis Ore?" " No, Captain. Road's but a trail, very uneven. With two extra riders it will be easier though." Don Huerra entered the conversation. "Excellency, if
Lapa receives rain, we can't leave when you want. We may have to stay a few days."
"True, Don Huerra. But I think rain is for the coast only. Lapa is twenty-five miles inland."
"You are right, Excellency. Does Lapa ever receive rain in July?" " No, I don't
think so. July is very hot." Senora stifled a yawn. She motioned to the servant for the
dishes to be taken away.

I always find these so fascinating. You are opening up a whole new and interesting world to me. Yes, well written.
